Your Questions About Proper Golf Swing

Joseph asks…

golf swing probs again?

i am pushing the golf ball with it occasionaly hooking. i hate this as our O.B fences are on the right side of the course. what can i do to fix the push i see when i tyake a divot it points way right. how can i get my swing on the proper path again. any drills, aids would be appreciated

golf guide answers:

Try and feel that you are delivering the club to the top of the ball from the outside/farside. At present your clubface is too open at impact. Also think pull not push. The situation is being compounded in your mind!

Robert asks…

Does anyone know the proper way to drive a golf ball?

I have trying to teach myself how to drive a golf ball for a couple of years now. I still have no success at this present time. My grip and swing are disastrous, what type of aid should I buy to help me overcome these issues? I can’t afford private lessons so please no recommendations of that nature.

golf guide answers:

Watch lots and lots of golf videos and there are lot of clips on the net

Good luck with it

Steven asks…

Pivot and Plane Golf Trainer – mid 1980s Need Instructions – Clear Plastic Sheet with lines – mounts on mirror?

This a training aid I bought from a place in Florida. It has lines on it to help determine proper golf pivot and swing plane. I lost the instructions and am not exactly sure how to use. Anyone have the instructions or can help me figure out how to use properly?

golf guide answers:

Susan asks…

Need golf swing help?

This disgusting thing has hit me in my golf swing I have never done it before but on my downswing my right gets pulled over like a really bad over the top and it’s making me go nuts I’m leading with the hips so is there any ideas how to help it and any thing to practice it properly to get a feel of a proper shoulder turn on plane any swing thoughts about turning your shoulders to square, thanks in advanced

golf guide answers:

Linda asks…

GOLF-PRACTICE SWING THAT MIMICKS ACTUAL SWING?

What are some ways I can “practice’ the proper preshot practice swing?

It has never felt a comfortable preshot swing unless I have rough or dry fairway grass to CLIP.(I have recently heard you are not supposed to touch ground with club during practice swing-whoops.) Most of all my swings are either from-
A.Sandy lie/soft,damaged driving range
B.Hard pan-links course
=doesn’t feel correct when you swing and catch air instead of proper downward swing that produces a divot. Half speed swings don’t seem to create any torque either.

golf guide answers:

Whoever told you that you are not suppose to clip the ground when practicing without a ball is retarded….. You should work on ball position in your set-up by swinging like you were hitting a ball…. And make a divot…. Proper ball position is the most key factor and most over looked factor of the swing….. Work on getting the ball in the right spot of the down swing and your ball striking will improve drastically.

Your Questions About Youtube Golf Swing

Ken asks…

Help me improve my golf swing?

Help me improve my golf swing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGMWc2V5R5U The whole of my left leg ‘gives’ before I have hit the ball. Is that bad? I can hit the ball cleanly most of the time so is there any point in changing it. If I try to change it feels really strange.
Just to give you guys a little insight, i’m hitting an 8 iron, which usually goes 150-170 yards. I have a handicap of roughly 25, mostly due to a shite short game!

golf guide answers:

Heres my advice. If your short game is holding you back, why are you more concerned with your golf swing. Send in a short game clip of yourself and practice your short game more. Good Luck.

Do not worry about keeping your right arm staight. That will lead to tension and kill your swing. You have a little bit of a reverse pivot. Your weight appears to start slightly on your front leg and you never get fully stacked over your left side at the top of the backswing.

Edit: To Phil: Exactly, dont worry about keeping your left arm straight. You do want the left arm extended but not locked straight. Trying to keep your left arm completely straight will limit your turn in most cases. Occasionally you will see a player who can keep it straight but not a lot.

Sharon asks…

Compare and analyze my golf swings? I have links to youtube :) ?

I’ve been working on my golf swing, here is my swing back in January if you care to take a look…I only linked this one because I felt I made some really nice changes to the last couple of weeks…this one was in January and has pretty much been my swing all last year. Don’t worry about analyzing this one since I’ve changed it now.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XZCQaZPQt8

This next swing is a combination of me working on a soft grip, swing plane, shorter backswing and follow through and posture. This was a week ago.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8daSLnBWT1E

This swing is from today. I’ve been working on a lot of the same things and just getting everything locked in except one major thing. I’ve been swinging with my elbows attached to my body throughout. I feel that I’m reaching too much for the ball and this is helping me stay compact and not reach for the ball as much. Also, I feel that my spine angle stays more constant.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5iRBK4uu64

Please tell me what you think! Analyze, compare, advice, whatever! I’d love some feedback on the last two swings. Also, I’d really like to know if me keeping the elbows close is something I should make permanent in my swing.

Thanks everyone!

golf guide answers:

Pretty nice swing. Your setup looks really good. I would probably suggest in the last video, that your swing is a little over the top. Not bad, but if you pause the video at the top of the swing, you can see your wrists going kind of up and down. It looks like you might hit a slight cut/ fade or a little pull. One thing, I did notice is that you sort of start your swing with your arms. You probably should sort of start with a turn of the shoulders to start your swing instead of the arms/wrists. It is extremely hard to tell just seeing one swing, but that is what I think that I see. I suggest that you get this golf program. It is called V1 golf. It is an app that you can get on your phone or computer. It analyzes and compares your swing to those of the pros. You can draw lines, circles, or whatever. It is not that expensive either.

Chris asks…

how can i improve my golf swing?

im just picking up golf and was wondering if you guys had any tips to help improve my swing

here is a video of my swing

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ql8B3MVEN8A

golf guide answers:

Keep you head down and drop your hands before you turn your hips. Also keep your lower back strait and only bend your upper back it may feel a little uncomfortable at first but it really helps alot

Mandy asks…

Golf Swing – has anyone heard of this Sevam character, read his book, or used his techniques?

I’ve seen him doing some instruction on Youtube and a bit more of him at www.hogansecret.com, but I’m wondering if anyone has had any success with his stuff.

golf guide answers:

It does work for minor improvement. However it will only knock 2 strokes off of your game.

David asks…

Can you guys rate my new golf swing?

Its a video put together of my swing change during my first year of golf
im 14 and about a 24 handicap ( i 3 putt every single hole if you were wondering)
it’s pretty bad quality but did my swing get better?

golf guide answers:

Hey dude you have a great swing plane and rotation. One thing to watch out for is your right leg on the downswing. Watch your right leg as it bends at the knee. Your bent knee is making your head drop. This can result in hitting your irons and wedges fat. Try to keep that leg straighter, although it will still need some flex in it. If you do, you will see an increase in distance too because you right leg has a lot of power that you don’t know you are using. Here is a link that will show you the ideal position at impact. Keep that leg straighter and you’ll do great with that swing.

Your Questions About Golf Swing Takeaway

October 11, 2011 by golf guide

Daniel asks…

my golf swing-takeaway

is it right to use your shoulders right away on your takeaway?coz whenever i use my arms to initiate my backswing, most of the time my downswing gets f’d up. its either i hit it to fat or hook the ball. And using your shoulders on your takeaway just makes it feel more smooth.

golf guide answers:

Think of your arms as the extension of the club to attach it to your body core, so your take away should be the rotation of your shoulders and not your arms.

Having said that, the initial take away is a level movement of the club head moving away from the ball. Imagine you have a straight line parallel to your stance behind the ball, your take away should follow that line for as long as you can without shifting your body or head sideways. The club will naturally move upwards if you do this.

Yes, take away and up-swing effects your down swing somewhat, but you’re probably swinging on a wrong swing plane to cause your downswing to be messed up. Regardless of how you get the club to the top of your swing, it should be parallel to the ground, pointing at the target, left arm straight (for right handed golfers) and body properly coiled. Think of dropping the club’s butt end towards the ground on your initial down-swing, once the club is half way down, think of ‘chopping’ a hole (divot) under the ball, upon contact with the ball, left your club head continue flying FORWARD towards the target and let the momemtum of the swing bring the club back around your left side.

Do this in slow motion and get the feel of it first before start hitting balls. Also don’t try to kill the ball, let the natural swing of the club do it’s job, you just concentrate on swinging properly.

Linda asks…

How can I flatten my downswing plane in my golf swing?

I am a 16 year old single digit handicap that needs some swing help. I know that my takeaway is a little inside, but on my downswing, I am coming in too steep. What could I do to fix this issue?

golf guide answers:

You could try standing a little further from the ball? That should flatten your swing some, but it could cause you to reach and start hitting a fade or slice.

Michael asks…

How do I correct my golf swing?

My takeaway is giving me problems. My club goes WAY inside on the takeaway, thus causing my downswing to be flat and away from the ball, causing me to make contact around the hosel. Is there any type of equipment that works to correct this problem? Or…maybe a golf tip that you know that could help? Thanks!

golf guide answers:

Yeah, i used to have the same problem. When you take it back, it feels natural to take it inside, but try to take it staright back, which to you will feel like talking it outside. Also, toe to the sky is a good takeaway tip. MAke sure the toe of the club is facing the sky. Hope it helps!

Maria asks…

Pangya Super Swing Golf game for Wii, problems?!?

Hi there,

My husband and I have just bought the Pangya golf game for the Wii and we are having problems. We seem to be unable to swing and make a shot. The tutorial says there is a “Shot” button that is supposed to come up on screen which you’re meant to click on to set up and execute a shot. Thats fine. We get to that bit. But then theres a little box that comes up saying “Begin Shot”. This is the part we dont actually get. Instead, our screen always skips to the next stage which is “Takeaway“. From that point, it just flicks between “Takeaway” and “Swing“, but its like it hasnt registered and set up a shot properly. Anyone else having a problem with this game?! Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!
We sorted it out by re-syncing the wii remotes. Thanks anyway!

golf guide answers:

U have to hold the B button and then it should let u pull back the controler to swing the club and hit the ball

Charles asks…

My golf swing…..any tips??!!?

1.Im having troubles in my back swing…..it’s startin to look past parrelle like John Daly got any tips?

2. I looked on video and my takeaway is not on plane ( It’s way inside) any tips?

golf guide answers:

I have several tips that if executed properly will drastically help your swing.

1. Keep your eyes on the ball until AFTER impact. Not only to envision the ball’s position and depth so you may come on contact with the ball, also because looking at the ball will help to stabilize your swing. Your head is connected to your shoulders, and turning your head on the backswing will sometimes lead to overswinging because your shoulders will have freer backward movement.

2. To prevent overswinging, consciously stop your backswing when your left arm is horizontal against your chest. This will give you control over your swing and as an amateur, if executed properly this will give you more than enough power to hit the ball.

3. When swinging, it is mostly shoulder movement. On the backswing your left shoulder should move to the center as your back is turned and your eyes are still on the ball. Then as you swing down, the right side should replace the left side as you impact the ball.

Good luck and hope my answer helps you.

Best Golf Swing – Beginner’s Guide How To Swing Golf Clubs (Part 6)

September 28, 2009 by admin
Filed under Golf for Beginners, Golf Swing, The Golf Club

best golf swingThe following points accurately sum up basic beginner advice when learning the ropes of making a best golf swing:

1. What makes a golf swing more difficult to perfect than other sports which utilize a similar accessory, such as baseball for example, is due to the fact that it involves vertical and horizontal planes. In baseball you only swing the bat for one motion – horizontal.

2. When you make your golf swing, you should not be thinking about making contact with the ball. Rather, your focus should be on swinging through the movement and beyond the ball. Pretend that the ball isn’t there.

3. A perfect golfswing should be balanced, smooth, and graceful. It should never be forced or made with brute strength. Technique and fluidity is everything.

4. Your ideal swing plane should not be steep. Instead, it should gravitate towards being flatter.

5. Begin your backswing very slowly while the clubhead moves low to the ground. Your body should begin to move in unison, as one unit.

6. During the top of the swing, the right arm should be folded snug in into your side (right-handed golfers). The left arm should be straight, but not totally stiff. The hips should be turned at approximately 45°. The shoulders should be approximately 90°. Most of your weight should also be placed on the right foot.

7. The downswing should be viewed as an “uncoiling” of the body. Your hips turn first, followed by the shoulders, then the arms and hands, and finally the clubhead. Consider the movement the same as cracking a whip. The majority of your weight should then be transferred to the left foot during the downswing.

8. You must always follow through once the ball has been hit and is soaring towards the target. If you do not follow through, you can risk injuries to the arms and torso, as well as decreasing the speed of the ball.

9. And finally, beginners who are set on learning how to make the perfect golfswing should always use the 7-iron. This club is perfect for learning the proper techniques that make a best golf swing.

Proper Swing Lesson – Beginner’s Guide How To Swing Golf Clubs (Part 5)

September 28, 2009 by admin
Filed under Golf for Beginners, Golf Swing, The Golf Club

proper golf swingIf you have made it this far in reading up on our breakdown of what it takes to make a proper golf swing, then all of your basics have been covered and you should be able to go out and practice all of the points made. Stick with the basics taught before moving on to advanced swing techniques.

The last little golden nugget of advice we have for you is choosing the right golf club when learning golf swing basics. All golf clubs vary in multiple ways. This includes how much loft a club gives the ball, the lie angle, and club length. Your driver is the longest club. It provides the least amount for loft as well as the flattest swing plane. The shortest club you have is the sand wedge, which provides the highest amount of loft and a very steep swing plane.

Neither one of these clubs are recommended when just starting out in learning your golf swing. It is never smart practice to use your longest clubs or your shortest clubs because the swing conditions they create are unique in conjunction with the club’s size and build.

The Best Club To Get Started With

Although you can choose any club you wish, we highly recommend the 7-iron for those players who are a little sketchy on the basics and are still practicing their golf swing. This club is right up the middle in terms of length and action output. It is also much easier to control than other clubs, especially the driver.

Due to the 7-iron’s average swing plane and the perfect amount of loft, it makes the ideal golf club to learn your swing with and make contact with the ball for standard shots.

Some beginner golfers are never taught this advice and they use other clubs that do not produce the best results during this part of the learning curve.  For example, if you practice with a wedge, the ball will have a lot of backspin on it due to the high loft action output of the club. This creates poor golf shots that result in hooks and/or slices. You’ll never be able to pinpoint any problems in your swing when utilizing such clubs for practice.

By using the 7-iron, you will be able to tell if the ball is either slicing, hooking, or going in a straight direction. Use this club when you are just learning how to get proper golf swing.  Because it is easy to use, your confidence level in making your shots will rise quickly and you will be able to advance further at a more rapid pace.
