How do I use legs in golf swing, can anyone help me?

I am an above average golfer in my opinion and have a 10.4 handicap with an average drive of 240 yards with a draw, and I am always attempting to improve my golf swing whether it is through magazines, reading on-line, or watching television. The main thing I notice is that golfers are always talking about generating power through legs and hips. Whenever I attempt to use more legs and hips I either move forward and hit off the heel, or get a major slice. My current swing I just keep a large majority of weight on my back foot for as long as I possibly can. I know that this can result in duck hooks, but I only get about one of these at most a round. Please offer any advise or drills so I can figure out how to use more hips and legs.

How can I improve my golf swing?

I have learned to keep my head down and eye on the ball and thats helping, but I sitll randomly hook and slice…I think its where im standing. I know about how you line up your feet to where your hitting but beyond that I dont know anything else, help!

If you’re slicing, try lowering your back shoulder. Also a lot of the direction depends on the grip of the club. Try tightening up the grip.

Golf Swing Plane Advice?

With my golf swing I always tend to slice. When I go to the range for practice, towards the end I usually stop the slice, but by the next time I go, I start to slice again. What are some ways to practice to keep my swing on plane? Any good training aids that could help? Thanks

When the swing plane is the cause of a slice you tend to swing outside in. One way to correct this is to take a rolled up pair of socks, or something similar, and put it under your right bicep. Take a practice swing and try to keep the socks from falling out. This should keep your swing plane consistent. The cause of an outside/inside swing is when a golfer tends to lift the club head up too soon, during the back-swing, instead of pulling it back. Using the socks doesn’t really help develop the correct swing plane, but it works to try to correct a slice. Good luck!

Are there any tools to help with my golf swing?

I’m slicing a lot. Is there anything that can help?

A card board box and a marker. Draw a square or an X on the box just above the bottom of the box. The X or square is your “ball”. Take your setup and make your normal swing EXCEPT… On the downswing, you want to make sure you feel the hands rotating the club face closed and you will strike the box with the toe of the club.
This drill will help you to feel what a rotating club face feels like and will help you get the club squared up at impact. This will not only help with the slice but can aid in creating distance for you as well. Good luck.

Need Help with my golf Swing?

Ok I have a major problem with my golf swing, especially off the tee. I am right handed and i have a huge right to left slice on my drives. I know what’s causing the problem it is because i don’t strike the ball with straight stroke, I hit the ball going through left to right and it creates that nasty spin. What are some practices/techniques i can do to help straighten out my drives, or is going to the range everyday until i fix the problem the only way?

There have been books written on the subject…btw a right to left shot is a hook not a slice for a RH…I assume you meant left to right…the “banana ball”. It’s caused by your out to in swing. Here is one tip to try: Take your driver back as low and as slow as you can…scrape the grass as far back as you can on your backswing…that in itself will fix many problems. And when you start you down swing make a conciosu effort to swing “slow” on the way down…you won’t actually swing slow but it will be controlled…it feels slow though…and as teh guy above said go get some lessons from soneone that really knows their craft.

One of the easiest ways to study your swing plane is have somebody film you. A more high tech way to assist you in correcting your swing plane is a laser light that fits onto the end of the club handle.

What Is The Best Swing Plane To Have?

There is no correct or wrong swing plane. Several golfer’s angles come in steep, while others are shallow. Even though not set in stone, you’ll notice that shorter people whom use standard length golf clubs will have a shallow swing plane. And taller golfers who use standard length clubs tend to show a steep swing plane in comparison.

You can take different golf swing planes, every with good result, so long as you never allow your swing plane to change too much as long as the swing. It is okay if your backswing tends to be a little steeper than your downswing, so long as they have exaggerated differences.

Last Minute Tip

Achieving the correct golf swing plane will be determined by your position, or setup. Try not to stand too close to the ball and not ever tilt your upper torso too far to the left (right-handed golfers), or too far to the right (left-handed golfers). Doing so will make your swing plane a little too steep.
